On April 9, the US Senate confirmed Paul Atkins as the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in a 51-45 vote, largely along party lines. Atkins, a former SEC commissioner between 2002 and 2008, has been appointed by President Donald Trump to lead the regulatory agency. His confirmation comes after serving as a pro-crypto advocate and co-chair of the Token Alliance, a crypto advocacy group.
Atkins, who founded financial consulting firm Patomak Global Partners in 2009, specializes in regulatory compliance and risk management. He is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the SEC, having navigated the financial markets during the global financial crisis.
