Ethereum researcher Virgil Griffith was recently released from prison custody on April 9, marking a significant development in his legal battle with US prosecutors. The Bureau of Prison (BOP) officials confirmed his release, and according to crypto developer Brantly Millegan, Griffith will be residing in a halfway house for several weeks while awaiting the next steps in his parole process.

Griffith's legal troubles began in 2019 when he was arrested for giving a lecture in North Korea about blockchain technology and its potential to circumvent US sanctions. Despite the content of his presentation being publicly available information, the US government accused him of violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) by sharing "highly technical information" with North Korea.
